Alawal Stud / Sama Bu Dhabi by Darike wins the feature race of the day. (20.12.2009)

It was Sama Bu Dhabi, one of four debutantes, who prevailed in the dying strides to deny top-weight Raeaa W’Rsan, the only previous winner in the field.
Tadhg O’Shea appeared to have won the race when he hit the front 300m out but Omani born apprentice Salima Al Taleei produced Sama Bu Dhabi with a perfectly timed challenge to lead virtually on the line.
Trained by Michael Kettle, it was an impressive debut by the winner who ran very green early on, but responded to a crack of the whip 300m out and won under hands and heels.
Kettle, for whom it was a first winner of the campaign, explained: “The horses have been running well and we have had a few seconds. We do no have that many horses so it is nice to win a feature race.
“Salima has done that brilliantly and has ridden well all season.”
Al Taleei added: “She was green early on and once we have turned for home she has picked up nicely. She is a useful filly and hopefully we can build on that.”
